Perry Township Police collected more than 400 winter coats to distribute to families in need. The goal to fill a police cruiser was surpassed thanks to the generous donations from throughout the community.
The challenge was simple. Could the police collect enough donated winter coats, hats and gloves in three weeks to fill a police cruiser? “The generosity of this community is truly amazing and we thank them for making this campaign such a great success" said Perry Township Police Officer Chris Gabbard, the Project Manager.
The Perry Township Police Department, sponsors, and community volunteers collected enough new and gently used winter clothing, gloves and hats to fill several police cruisers Gabbard said. The donated items will go to families in the Brookville,
Officer Gabbard said there were many generous donations but if he was to single out one as an example of community support and being reflective of spirit of the campaign, it would be the donation made by Berta Ausra of Brookville who donated 59 hats and 89 pairs of gloves she had knitted.
The police department plans a similar challenge after the holidays to see if a police cruiser can be filled with non-perishable food items to be donated to the food bank.
