International Foundation for Cultural Property Protection

On January 8, 2003, respected cultural property professional and dear friend, Mike Dougherty, died unexpectedly at a Virginia hospital following a brief illness.  It is the desire of the International Foundation for Cultural Property Protection (IFCPP) to establish an on-going memoriam in the name of Michael J. Dougherty, CFPS, CIPM.  Mr. Dougherty was a charter member of the Foundation, among the first group of professionals certified as a Certified Institutional Protection Manager, and a well-respected member of this specialized profession.   Additionally, Mr. Dougherty served as a member of the Foundation’s Advisory Board, and assisted in matters where expertise in fire protection required his special knowledge.   We further wish to recognize Mr. Dougherty’s loyalty, great wit, and unending dedication to his profession.

Beginning in the year 2003, the IFCPP shall designate one deserving person as recipient of the Michael J. Dougherty Scholarship Award, to be applied toward attendance at any IFCPP sponsored national or regional conference, and completion of certification training.  Said recipient shall be nominated by any member or member institution, and selected by a special committee of the Board of Directors.

We will miss Mike dearly.  His wife, Eileen, and family will be in our thoughts and prayers.
